A lot has happened in the last 10 years. Check out our timeline of advancements in research and treatments since the first Challenge Walk MS event took place in 2003. Keep reading for stories and memories from fellow Challenge Walkers.

Timeline of Advances in MS research and treatment

  • 2003 - First Challenge Walk MS takes place at Camp Green Lane in Lansdale, Pa. The Society invests $33 million in MS research projects in the United States and abroad
     
  • 2004 - The Society establishes five new Collaborative MS Research Centers to speed the search for the cause and cure of MS
     
  • 2005 - The Society establishes six Pediatric MS Centers of Excellence to set the highest standard for pediatric MS care and gather critical data to help researchers worldwide
     
  • 2006 - FDA approves the monoclonal antibody Tysabri to reduce the frequency of clinical relapses in relapsing forms of MS
     
  • 2007 - The journal Neurology publishes a comprehensive supplement to guide pediatricians and neurologists treating children with MS
     
  • 2008 - First World Congress on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis held in Montreal
     
  • 2009 - The Society launches a genetics study to identify most of the common genes that contribute to making people susceptible to developing MS
     
  • 2010 - FDA approves the use of Gilenya, the first oral drug for the treatment of MS attacks
     
  • 2011 - The Society launches MS NOW: No Opportunity Wasted, an MS Research Revolution to stop disease progression, restore function lost and end MS forever
     
  • 2012 - Challenge Walk MS celebrates its 10th year. Nearly 800 million dollars have been invested in MS research since the Society was founded in 1946

Challenge Walk MS is more than just a walk. It’s a commitment to the more than 14,000 local people living with MS that you have gone the distance for to fight this disease. It’s a commitment to their families that you have worked tirelessly to help us find a cure.

On October 13-14, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Challenge Walk MS. Throughout the last 10 years, we have heard countless stories about what Challenge Walk MS means to you.
